The Essence

The 5th Green Bird Bangkok Event, held by The Essence School & OpenSchool on Saturday 6th
of August, was officially ended. Our over 50 Green Bird volunteers have gathered to pick up trash and clean the areas around Chulalongkorn Soi 5. Either small pieces of plastic or big packages of snacks were placed in our right type of bins. We even sought those hidden rubbish under soil. We as well dedicated ourselves to greener environment even if the weather was boiling and rained
a bit. Overall, the event was accomplished as we planned ahead.

Not only that we cleaned the areas by clearing garbage, we also learned waste separation. Well…
just sat and listened all related information was quite boring, wasn’t it? That was why our staffs
led such a fun activity for everyone to join in. Kahoot game was our pick. The purpose of this
game was to check that everybody understood necessary information and it was, of course, fun!
Additionally, it helped motivate participants to work hard in glove with the team.

As we walked around the areas, we saw many types of trash including pieces of paper,
plastic bags, bottles, cigarettes, and even food scraps. We assumed that these wastes would be
continuously disposed by local people and whoever wander about. Chulalongkorn Soi 5 is a public place, so we cannot force everyone not to litter. We, Green Bird Volunteers, then pooled our
efforts in order to make the area cleaned. Reducing the number of wastes brought livable and
delightful atmosphere.

Green Bird Bangkok Event implanted volunteer consciousness and encouraged students to get to know each other. Some might not know seniors, juniors, or friends from another classroom.
In each group, they learned to work harmoniously and willingly. Although there were some
obstacles during the event process, every staff dealt with them effectively. Maybe it was
imperfect, everything did not go as planned, but everybody still sustained the good consequence.

Last but not least, we are deeply thankful that participants realized that many hands make
light work. You all are the major part of accomplishment. See you again soon!
